Shiv Sagar – Bass naam kaafi hai! Which are quite the words out on the streets. We decided to put this to the test at their recently opened branch at M.G Road in the Utility building (old Ullas Refreshments).
Now, those of you who had been to Ullas Refreshments before will be in for a shock of a lifetime as the place has undergone a complete makeover and all we can say is that the new Shiv Sagar looks a class apart but a part of us will always miss Ullas.

Down to the food, they have a mixed bag of Indian and Continental dishes for the foodie in you, not to mention fantastic snack items too.

In South Indian snacks the must have dishes are the Chow Chow Bath and the Rava Masala Dosa. The Dosa here puts your money where your mouth is, and is by far one of the best we’ve ever had. We washed this down with one of their “legendary” juices – Ganga Jamuna which is an amalgamation of Mosambi (sweet lime) and Santra(Mandarin) and legendary because no one makes it like they do.

For starters we ordered a “Z” soup which is something quite out of the ordinary, try it, it’s a surprise. Further we ordered Do Phool Do Swaad which is grilled cauliflower and broccoli and to our surprise the broccoli was farm fresh. The Paneer Angara and Gulafi Seekh was next, which can be passed as it lacked flavor and was bland. A special mention goes out to the Orange Paneer which is something really unique and tastes exactly likes it sounds – awesome! In the mean time we also managed to gobble on some Garlic Bread which was again heavenly.

Next came the main course. First up was Continental, we had the Veg Cannelloni and the Broccoli and Potato Bake. The former was ok but not something to take home. The latter was lip smacking as it was perfectly baked. They also have a host of other continental dishes for you to try.

The Indian main course was up next and this is what we were really waiting for. We ordered 3 curries because we were hungry as always. Vilaiti Sabji came first which simply translates into Foreign (exotic) vegetables and the combo between east and west was a real delight. The next dish really deserves a round of applause, Jaffrani Malai Kofta is hands down one of the best we have ever had and it definitely takes the prize. Combine it with a warm Kulcha and you will be in heaven. Finally we had the Dal Makhani and some Biryani for taste; both were made well and were flavorful.

If you are still left with space do try the Sizzling Brownie, it’s nothing short of fantastic!
