Review by Akshaya R Pai, Official Team Member, The 3 Hungry Men

Smoke House Deli (SHD) is a chain of all-day casual dining restaurants that’s popular in Delhi and Mumbai which recently opened up in Bangalore.  It is situated in one of the prime locations (Indiranagar, 100 Ft Road), where they are most likely get customers who will appreciate and enjoy the kind of food they serve.  Looking like a lovely glass house from the outside, the interiors are filled with lovely sketches/doodles depicting everything that is Bangalore.  Complete black and white décor around the place as well as on the menu cover, the coasters and even in the interiors of the loo!

I had for company, my aunt and cousin, so we were essentially 3 hungry women (yes, pun very much intended).  Apart from the very wide drinks menu, SHD also offers unlimited Sangria for 450 bucks and we opted for it!  There is Sangria with either white or red wine and we can choose either and change our choice later too.  Aunt took the red wine Sangria, while I had both one after the other.

And now, let’s talk food.  A glance at the menu shows you variety, not in cuisine but choice of items.  From Breakfast items, to Soups & Salads, to Sandwiches & Burgers, Pizzas, Pastas & Risottos, to Continental style starters and mains.  Also, they have amazing desserts.  There is a huge dessert counter, just like what you would see outside a bakery (they bake in the restaurant, and your nose is teased with lovely bread aroma).  They serve different breads in a cute little sack with different butters and a jar of Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar.

We ordered four starters, each very different from the other – Bacon wrapped potatoes, Peri-peri squid rings, Grilled Mushroom with Béarnaise Sauce and Cheese (served on garlic bread toast) & Panko Chicken.  The Bacon wrapped potatoes where absolutely delicious and win the first prize from me.  Slightly sweetish, but yummy nonetheless.  Who doesn’t love Bacon?  Panko Chicken was a bit of a let-down as it seemed like a glorified version of KFC chicken strips.  The Peri-Peri Squid Rings was a delicious surprise with the squid being cooked well (not rubbery at all).  The mushroom with béarnaise sauce was the only vegetarian dish we had and it was good as well.   From the pics, you can also see how generous the helpings of each of them were.

Coming to the mains, since we had already binged quite a bit on the starters, we ordered just two mains – “My Boss’s Style Spaghetti” and Bacon Wrapped Chicken with red wine jus(again Bacon, I know, but Bacon wrapped anything is so tempting).   The former with the funky name, was spaghetti cooked with red onions and field mushrooms and we added smoked chicken to it.  Topped up with a light sauce, it was a delight.  Bacon wrapped chicken was quite filling.  It came with yummy creamy mashed potatoes underneath and lovely red wine jus.  The jus was neither too thick nor too watery.

For desserts, we went in for the Hazelnut Mousse Flan and the Raspberry Oreo Cheesecake.  The steward tells us the Hazelnut Mousse Flan is a fast moving popular dessert and we could see why.  Absolutely sinful!  Recommended only for chocolate lovers!  The cheesecake was a yummy delight as well.   It was a tough choice to make since Philly Cheese Cake & Roasted Almond Ganache Torte were looking good too.  But we were too full to have any more.

Coming to the service, I found the maître d’ to be quite courteous & the steward seemed knowledgeable enough about the food.  The waiters though were a bit clumsy & could do with a little more training.  We also had to wait quite a bit to get our bill, but then the place was packed!

The prices are slightly on the higher side but the food is so good, you don’t mind paying so much for it.  Worth every paisa, provided you know what to order.  If in Bangalore, do visit for a good brunch and some quality time!  Remember to book a table, especially over the weekends as the place gets quite full!

Must haves:  Bacon wrapped potatoes, Peri Peri Squid Rings & Hazelnut Mousse Flan

Address:  Smoke House Deli, 1209, Opposite Staples, 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar, Bangalore
