This is a hidden place in the heart of the city. I got to know of it thanks to my Coorgi friend. No prizes for guessing that this place serves Coorgi food, especially Pork dishes.
This place is a must visit if you like Pork, especially Coorg style Pork. If you do not eat Pork, you can try the Chicken Dishes, ‘cause they are just as tasty.
The main dishes you get here are Pandi curry (with rice or a full Pork meal), Pork Chilly, Pork Pepper fry. And one thing that goes well with all this is Akki Rotti. When I say Akki Rotti, do not think of the ‘Bangalore’ style Akki Rotti. At Wild Spice you get the authentic traditional Coorgi Style Akki Rotti. It looks like a white Chapathi. It is thick, but very well made. They make it hot and fresh as you order and so you enjoy it more.
We first ordered the Coorg style Pork Chilly. While it looked like Pork 65, it tasted delicious. It was a little too dry to have with the Rotti, but yummy nonetheless. Next in line was the Coorg style Pork Pepper fry. We also had the Chicken version of the same dish. The masala for both tasted the same and was nice and peppery and spicy. Non-Pork eaters can also try their Wild Spice Chicken. A thick gravy dish that tastes wonderfully home-made.
Along with this we also ordered the Bamboo Shoot fry. It was not all that great. This was probably because the Bamboo did not feel very fresh. So we avoided that on our next visit.
Try and avoid the Egg Rice meals. With watery gravy you are better off drinking plain water.
The ambience is not too great, but the walls are decorated with things that you would commonly find in Coorg, and that gives it a good feel. But the place is rather dark and noisy as it is just next to the main road.
Nonetheless, the good food makes up for the ambience!
