Just when you thought Mangalore is missing one of those cutesy cafes, Café Brio comes along, a small and cosy nook, conveniently located right next to St Aloysius College at Lighthouse.

We’ve been hearing neutral feedback for a while now, and decided we had to check it out for ourselves. We were pleasantly surprised with how cosy the décor was, and how it made us feel like we’re not in Mangalore for the short duration that we were there.

Great views in daylight, and comfortably light at night, Café Brio promises a decent experience. The place was not too crowded – which was a plus.

We started off with some mocktails/coolers – a mojito which was passable, a green apple cooler that we absolutely loved and a litchi cooler which easily falls in our top 3 recommendations. If you’re looking for something slightly heavier, we recommend the strawberry milk shake.

We indulged in some delectable starters – chicken meatballs in spicy sauce. If you love your chillies, then definitely go for this dish. The roast chicken and pepper salad was not very exciting but if you’re looking for a light and healthy option, this is it. The crab sticks were better than average. What topped our starter options was definitely the baked cheesy mushrooms. You MUST try this!

We had the chicken steak for main course – it was medium spiced and the flavour was quite minimalistic! The squid pasta was nice – neutral flavours and definitely something we recommend if you don’t like your food over spiced. The grilled fish was again quite average but the definite winner was the Chicken Steak.

A quick mention about the food here is that most dishes are bland since its purely a Continental fare, do let them know in advance if you like your food spicy.

The desserts – one word – WOW! We absolutely loved the Nutella Cheesecake and the Cookie base brownie. If you visit this place – you can’t miss trying out these desserts. They do of course have other regular stuff like red velvet cupcakes and so on.

The service was good and like we said – not too crowded. We definitely recommend visiting this place and try it for yourself. We do have a mix of opinion like many others when it comes to the food and pricing as we still feel a little fine tuning is necessary, but overall you wont be that disappointed as well because you a new place which perfectly fills the gap Mangalore presents in terms of nice cozy places, with a great view and really friendly people serving you! Café Brio is a place you must try!

And if you’re a shopaholic – there’s a small store right next to the café where you can look at some authentic Indian crafts, fabrics and jewelry!
