It’s been quite a while since we have been frequenting Bangalore and whenever we craved Arabic food, the most synonymous name was Savoury. They had quite a few branches in Bangalore, across India and even abroad.
How we wished that Savoury had a branch in Mangalore and LO! Last month our dream came true. But the question always stood, was the Savoury in Mangalore as good as the one in Bangalore? We decided to put them to the test.
We headed there on a Sunday afternoon and the place was quite packed (not surprising!). the ambience is really warm and the place is indeed bustling!
The food is what we were here for and that’s exactly what we got down to eat.To put it in short, they have a myriad of cuisines, ranging from South Indian to North Indian, Chinese etc. with the main highlight being Arabic (don’t let that hold you back from ordering dishes other than Arabic because they have a dedicated team of chefs for each cuisine so you can expect the Chinese to be as good as your Arabic!)
Now we kid you not, but the 3 of us had 20 items in total, listing them all would be cumbersome. So here’s what, we are going to give you the best items from all worlds:
This one is their version of a cold Mezze consisted of various Arabic dips (Hummus, Baba Ganouj, Tabbouleh etc.) drizzled in olive oil and served with a warm pita bread. This dish is certainly comforting and really well made!
A well-loved Kabab preparation and what they served here was truly authentic . Be warned that this is slightly bland, just as the Arabs love it. Don’t forget to ask for more spice before you order.
Pepper BBQ Chicken:
This version of Al-Faham with a high dose of pepper will surely satiate you. Perfectly grilled with a true justice to its name, you must try this!
This was nothing out of the ordinary though it does come as a respite to all vegetarians, perfectly cooked Paneer cubes with Tikka marinade, yum!
Created in Yemen, re-mastered in Kudla. Now the first look at this dish was kind of disappointing as it just appeared to be Khuska rice with a piece of steamed chicken. But we were wrong, so so wrong! One morsel of rice was enough to destroy our prejudice. The rice and chicken was so flavorful, it was beyond words. This was by far the best Mandhi we’ve ever had!
Savoury Special Chicken:
Two chicken gravies (red/green), served besides each other. This is like the yin and yang of curries. Goes perfectly well along with their Kerala Parota / Wheat Parota (one of the crispiest we’ve had in ages). This dish proved that they had a clout in Indian food as well!
Veg Kadai / Veg Biryani:
A delight for vegetarians, the Veg Kadai is complete with along with some warm Butter Naan. The Veg. Biryani too does good justice to our green dot fraternity.
Drinks / Desserts:
A wholesome mix of 3 fruits with sauce and nuts is sure to satisfy you. We won’t tell you what’s in it, try it out and let us know how you loved it!
This dessert is literally fit for a king, ice cream with vermicelli, copious amounts of sauce, and doused with nuts is what we call paradise!
No doubt, the perfect end to your meal!
Special Mention – SHAWARMA:
Now the Shawarma here would require another special post. The reason? It’s by far one of the best Shawarma to reach the shores on Mangalore. Once you try it you too will bear testimony to it.
The service was pretty quick and the food was outstanding, not to mention unique. What more could one ask for! We definitely vouch for Savoury! Do try them out today! And oh yes, we feel the food at Savoury in Mangalore is much better than what we tried at other locations, kudos!
P.S: They also serve breakfast 8:00 AM onwards which consists of amazing Kerala style dishes (Puttu, Appam, and curries) and a host of sandwiches too!
