Ever looked for a Village type of set up for dining? Well look no more, The 3 Hungry Men bring to you GUTHU! A one of a kind restaurant located above Jimmy’s supermarket in Falnir.

As you enter through the lift you are face with two choices, either the air conditioned set up or Panchayat – the village set up. We went straight up and were amazed by the authentic north Indian village ambience complete with cane seating, a well, and even a bullock cart at the entrance!

Now the question was, is their food as promising as their ambience? Read on.

We started off with a few mocktails namely, the guthu special, nutty toffee and Magic Dreams. They were all decent but the magic dreams deserves a special mention as it has 3 levels of flavor topped with fizz.

Moving on to the starters we went for Paneer ghee roast, Banjara Sticks and Standing Fish. The paneer was soft and well made. The banajara sticks were simply awesome. The simplicity of a chicken lollypop blended with green spices and grilled. Now the standing fish, we had great expectations from the name itself and yes, they were fulfilled! A huge Pomfret served perpendicular (literally standing) on a plate. Speaking about the preparation, it was one of a kind, never before in mangalore we had a pomfret served in Chinese style. With a little bit of sweet and spice this dish won our hearts, it was love at first sight as well as bite! The kind waiter also suggested us another unique dish named Chicken Banana Leeds which was Minced Chicken wrapped in Banana leaves, do try this too, slightly on the sweeter side though.

Down to Main course. We had Veg Kundapuri with Neer Dosa, this was an excellent amalgamation of spice and tradition. Then we had Black Chicken and Bamboo Rice. The former was a better version of chicken Manchurian and the Bamboo rice was very beautifully presented in a huge bamboo shoot, it tasted like any other fried rice but with a strong bamboo essence.

We then ordered for the deserts, which included a caramel custard, ras malai and gajar halwa. They were slightly disappointing and we got it to the managers attention, to our surprise in our next vist the taste was actually better. Extra respect points! Do let us know what you think!

All in all we had a great experience and yes as we left, we gave the standing fish another standing ovation!
