Hotel Narayana , widely known as – “Narayan’s”, how many mouths have started watering as soon as this name was mentioned? Everyone’s we presume. The iconic name for fish meals in Mangalore got T3HM to their doorsteps. To our sheer luck we were there at 12.45 which is considered as off peak and we could get seated in just ten minutes. The scene we observed from 1pm to 2.45pm was just horrific. I would take you a minimum of 20 minutes to get seated and there is absolutely no queue system somebody from nowhere can come up from behind and just sit on the seat you were eyeing for the past 30 minutes.
Down to the food, the staple fish curry along with white or boiled rice is given with some vegetable curry and pickle. A waiter comes around with the catch of the day including many varieties consisting of Sardines, Mackarels, Pomfrets and king fish which varies from day to day. But the USP is that Narayan’s has Anjal (King Fish) all year round!
Talking about taste it was Diwali in our mouth! Literally the fish curry and the fried varities were so tasty beyond words, now we knew why so many people recommended this and it also explained the queue like there was no tomorrow. A special mention goes out to a powder given along with the fried fish which is a actually the fried remains but is oh so tasty, don’t miss it. Not to mention this place is extremely friendly on the pocket with consideration to seafood!
This place also attracts the crème de la crème of Mangalore. We happened to unknowingly share a Table with Mr. Yatish Baikamapady and Mr. Suresh the deputy director of Fisheries who happened to be great followers of T3HM. We were delighted to break bread with them, so were they and their suggestions were priceless as it helped us in choosing the right fish.
Our meal had to come to an end as people behind us were staring at us like hungry vultures especially after we ordered the second round their impatience was at the peaks.
Despite all the flaws, at the end of the day we got an amazing fish meal and we recommend you to try it provided you go before 1pm. Don’t think about going later! But then again this fish is worth the wait!
