Felt tired after a long day of shopping at City Centre? Fear not. Just walk towards the exit of Auchan (formerly Spar) and you will see a sign saying “The London Street”. Intriguing as the name is we decided to walk further towards the sign in the Lounge. We opened the door to a blast of refreshing air, music and ambience. All though the ambience has very little to do with the name, it does represent a typical old school English PUB where only beer is served.

The London Street boasts of a unique ambience especially for those who want to smoke it’s even better as you head to Smokers Street which is the exclusive smoking open air seating. This area boasts of a beautiful view of the city. But as we could use some air conditioning we sat inside.

Down to business. What’s on the menu? Practically everything! A good mixed bag of continental dishes from Europe and Latin American Sizzlers, Kebabs, Chinese, Indian, you name it, it’s there. The waiter was kind enough to give us some suggestions according to our taste.

We wanted a little bit of everything. We started off with the Wardrobe Salad, Baked Cheese Crab in Shell, Prawns Butter Garlic and Afghani Kebab. While waiting we ordered for a few Mock tails and beers. We called for the London Street Special, Pink Lady, Raspberry Beer and Beer Mojito. The mocktails were really smooth and tasty.

Within no time our starters arrived. The wardrobe salad was their version of the Russian Salad with Walnuts, it’s loaded with mayo but we love the calories! The Afghani Kebab was tender but with an extra dose of cardamom, which was a turn off. The prawns butter garlic was excellent. The freshest prawns cooked in mild and delicate butter garlic sauce. Now the award goes to the baked cheese crab. This dish is par excellence, it’s so tasty you just cant stop eating it. The cheese and crabmeat are blended very well. Also full marks for presentation, this is one of the most unique dishes of crab in Mangalore!

We were left in a trance but we had to order for main course. We called for Chicken Dragon Noodles, Chicken Stroganoff and Steak Diane. The dragon noodles were literally fit for a dragon! That’s how big the quantity was fit for a hungry man i.e two people can eat one comfortably. The Steak Diane was made perfectly with tender chicken breasts. Finally came the Stroganoff which was served along with rice traditionally. It was well blended in the brown wine sauce and the buttered rice.

We suddenly realized that we do owe due diligence to the veggies out there so we quickly ordered a Stuffed Paneer Tandoori and Veg Au Gratin. The former was well cooked and the stuffing came as surprise to our taste buds. The latter was a veggies dream come true, one of the best Au Gratins in Mangalore we can proudly say. Don’t miss this if you are a vegetarian!

Sadly they don’t boast of any deserts so we drowned our sorrows and joys in another mug of beer! Everyone’s a winner!

On the whole The London Street captivates you and definitely takes over with their food and good service! Come here at night for a much more romantic and subtle ambience. And yes don’t leave without trying “BAKED CHEESE CRAB IN SHELL” over and out!
